When the test is useful
Gonorrhea is one of the most common sexually transmitted infections. It is caused by the bacterium Neisseria gonorrhoeae, which is transmitted in most cases through direct contact with infected mucosa.
The infection may affect the lining of the urethra, genital organs, throat, or rectum, and if left untreated it may progress to a chronic stage with more serious complications.
The test is performed using a sample from the urogenital tract, and you can obtain an indicative result within a few minutes at home.
The test is suitable, for example, for people with suspicious symptoms or for follow-up home testing after treatment.
