Sensitest Ferritin test – home test for iron levels in the blood
When the test is useful
Iron deficiency in the human body may be caused by insufficient intake and absorption of iron from food, iron loss due to bleeding, as well as during pregnancy or periods of growth. Iron deficiency can have serious health consequences for the body.
Fatigue, headache, pale skin and mucous membranes, palpitations, or shortness of breath are among the possible symptoms of iron deficiency. An important storage form of iron in the body is the protein complex called ferritin.
The test is performed using a routine fingertip capillary blood sample, and the result is available within minutes in the comfort of home.
The test is suitable, for example, for people with suspected low iron levels or for indicative home follow-up testing.
Key benefits
  • Rapid test for indicative assessment of ferritin level, an indicator of iron stores in the body.
  • Simple use with fingertip capillary blood.
  • Read the result at 5 minutes; do not interpret the result after 10 minutes.
  • Single-use test intended for in vitro self-testing.
Easy to use
  • The test cassette enables simple home testing and evaluation.
  • A sterile lancet and capillary dropper are provided for sample collection.
  • After applying the blood sample, add 1 drop of buffer into the sample well.
  • Always follow the enclosed instructions for use before performing the test.
Result interpretation
  • Normal result: two colored lines appear, one in the C (control) region and one in the T (test) region. According to the manufacturer, this means the ferritin concentration is at least 30 ng/mL.
  • Abnormal result: only the C control line appears. According to the manufacturer, this may indicate a ferritin concentration below 30 ng/mL and possible iron deficiency.
  • Invalid result: the C control line does not appear. Repeat the test with a new kit and follow the instructions carefully.
Warning: The test provides only a qualitative indicative result. An abnormal, unclear, or repeatedly abnormal result should be discussed with a physician; additional laboratory testing may be required for confirmation.
Kit contents
The test kit contains everything needed to perform 1 test:
  • 1 Ferritin test cassette in a sealed pouch,
  • 1 capillary dropper / pipette,
  • 1 buffer container,
  • 1 alcohol pad,
  • 1 sterile lancet,
  • instructions for use.

The manufacturer compared the test results with the CLIA method using 102 whole blood specimens, of which 79 were normal and 23 were abnormal.
Reference method CLIA
Abnormal coincidence rate 91.3%
Normal coincidence rate 96.2%
Total coincidence rate 95.1%
Correlation with CLIA More than 95.0%
Intra-assay precision Using 10 replicates of 0 ng/mL, 30 ng/mL and 100 ng/mL specimens, correct identification was greater than 99%
Inter-assay precision Using 10 independent assays and 3 different lots, correct identification was greater than 99%
Analytical sensitivity Detection of ferritin in fingerstick blood from 30 ng/mL
Cross-reactivity / interference The manufacturer reports no cross-reactivity with HAMA, RF, human serum albumin, human AFP, ferric chloride, human transferrin, or human hemoglobin
