BIOZEK® Total Cholesterol Test – home total cholesterol test
Why know your cholesterol level
Total cholesterol measurement is used in the monitoring of disorders of lipid and lipoprotein metabolism. An elevated cholesterol level in the blood may be associated with an increased risk of ischaemic heart disease.
Elevated cholesterol usually does not cause immediate symptoms. Regular testing can therefore help identify a value that should be discussed further with a doctor.
BIOZEK® Total Cholesterol Test is a rapid home test for preliminary semi-quantitative determination of total cholesterol in fresh fingertip capillary whole blood.
The test provides an indicative semi-quantitative result. A result indicating elevated cholesterol should be confirmed by a quantitative laboratory cholesterol test.
Who may benefit
  • People who want to monitor their total cholesterol level at home for indicative purposes.
  • People with overweight, high blood pressure, diabetes, smokers, or people with a family history of heart disease.
  • Women after menopause and middle-aged or older men, for whom cardiovascular risk may increase.
  • People who want to indicatively monitor the effect of dietary changes, physical activity, or treatment after consultation with a doctor.
Key benefits
  • Home semi-quantitative test of total cholesterol using fingertip capillary blood.
  • Simple single-use test with visual colour comparison.
  • No venous blood collection required.
  • The result is read between 2 and 2.5 minutes after applying the blood sample.
Easy to use
  1. Wash your hands with warm water and soap and dry them thoroughly. Do not use hand creams or lotions before testing.
  2. Open the foil pouch and prepare the test cassette.
  3. Collect a drop of fresh capillary blood from a fingertip. Wipe away the first drop with a clean tissue.
  4. Collect the second drop with the capillary dropper up to the fill line. Do not squeeze the finger too strongly during collection.
  5. Fill the sample well of the test cassette with blood and wait for 2 minutes.
  6. After 2 minutes, turn the cassette over and compare the colour of the test area with the colour chart in the instructions within the next 30 seconds.
Important: The result must be read between 2 and 2.5 minutes after applying blood. Reading too early may give an inaccurate result; reading too late may cause the colour to fade.
Result evaluation
Evaluate the result by visually comparing the colour of the test area with the reference colour chart provided in the instructions for use.
  • A test area lighter than the 99 mg/dL colour band corresponds to a total cholesterol result below 99 mg/dL.
  • A test area darker than the 250 mg/dL colour band corresponds to a total cholesterol result above 250 mg/dL.
  • Determine the value according to the closest matching colour on the manufacturer's colour chart.

Performance characteristics
Test performance was evaluated in manufacturer studies using specimens with known cholesterol values and by clinical comparison with the BECKMAN COULTER AUS800 reference method.
Repeatability / reproducibility Each specimen with a known cholesterol value was tested 10 times; agreement of results was greater than 93%.
Reference method BECKMAN COULTER AUS800
Clinical comparison 80 venous blood specimens
Agreement with reference method 90 to 96%
Tested interfering substances No significant effect was observed at the stated concentrations: ascorbic acid 3 mg/dL, bilirubin 20 mg/dL, creatinine 30 mg/dL, haemoglobin 400 mg/dL, urea 500 mg/dL, EDTA 640 mg/dL, lithium heparin 100 mg/dL; haematocrit between 30 and 55% did not affect results.
Data taken from the BIOZEK® Total Cholesterol Test manufacturer's instructions for use, version / release 2025-11-20.
Important warnings
  • Use fresh fingertip capillary blood only. Do not reuse the test cassette, lancet, or capillary dropper.
  • The test is not intended for infants or toddlers.
  • Dopamine, gentisic acid, and methyldopa may lead to lower test results.
  • Cholesterol levels may be affected by pregnancy, hormonal contraception, hormone replacement therapy, health conditions, or recent illness.
  • If the result is elevated or does not match your health condition, consult a doctor. A single home test does not provide a definitive diagnosis.
